A’s place RHP Joe Boyle on injured list; recall LHP Hogan Harris from Las Vegas

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s placed right-handed pitcher Joe Boyle on the 15-day injured list with a lower back strain and recalled left-handed pitcher Hogan Harris from Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today.

Boyle was on the A’s Opening Day roster and was 2-5 with a 7.16 ERA and .765 opponents OPS in seven starts. He had 29 strikeouts in 27.2 innings, but also walked 23, which is second most in the majors. Boyle is tied for the lead among Major League rookies in games started, tied for sixth in strikeouts and tied for ninth in innings pitched.

Harris is 1-1 with a 9.00 ERA and .920 opponents OPS in six starts with Las Vegas. He has 21 strikeouts in 21.0 innings, but has also walked 20, which is tied for second most in the Pacific Coast League. The 27-year-old left-hander made his Major League debut with Oakland last year and was 3-6 with a 7.14 ERA and .817 opponents OPS in 14 games, including six starts, over three stints with the A’s.
