Aaron Nola, Citizens and Philabundance team up to strike out hunger

May 15, 2024

(May 15, 2024) One day after throwing a nine-inning shutout in which he struck out eight New York Mets, Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola had a different goal on his mind: striking out hunger.

This morning, Aaron joined Citizens’ Mid-Atlantic President Dan Fitzpatrick, Phillies Senior Vice President of Partnership Sales & Corporate Marketing Jackie Cuddeback, Philabundance CEO Loree D. Jones Brown and Phillies Ambassador Scott Palmer to announce plans for this year’s Phans Feeding Families campaign to address food insecurity in our region at a press event at Philabundance’s Community Kitchen in North Philadelphia.

To kick-start the campaign, Citizens contributed $50,000 to Philabundance’s Community Kitchen (PCK), a free culinary vocational training program that prepares low-income students for careers in the food service industry. Through the program, students prepare 350,000 annual meals for community members in need and are connected with in-demand food services jobs.

Details were also revealed for Phans Feeding Families Day & Food Drive at Citizens Bank Park on Saturday, June 29, a ballpark-wide effort to provide hunger relief in our area. The team also revealed a new public support announcement for the initiative featuring Aaron, who is also a Phans ambassador.

The press event concluded with a celebratory pitch to officially strike out hunger with Aaron, the Phanatic, and Phil A. Beet, Philabundance’s mascot. Afterwards, Aaron and the Phanatic helped prepare meals for families at the PCK demonstration kitchen.

It certainly was a fun way to kick off this great team effort to help feed families in need.
