Dodgers Recall Eduardo Salazar, Select Elieser Hernández

LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled right-handed pitcher Eduardo Salazar, selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Elieser Hernández, optioned right-handed pitcher Gus Varland and designated right-handed pitcher Nabil Crismatt for assignment.

Salazar, 26, will be added to the Major League roster for the second time this season after posting a 1-2 mark with a 5.61 ERA in seven Triple-A games this season. The Cumana, Venezuela native pitched for the Cincinnati Reds in 2023, allowing 11 runs in 12.1 innings while notching his first Major League win on June 6 against the Dodgers. He has pitched in 148 games (83 starts) in his minor league career, going 24-27 with a 4.46 ERA and 444 strikeouts in 502.0 innings. He signed a minor league contract with the Dodgers on November 16, 2023.

Hernández, 29, joins the Dodgers for the first time this season. He has appeared in six games (five starts) for Triple-A Oklahoma City and is 4-1 with a 2.83 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 28.2 innings. He was a part of the Miami Marlins for five seasons, going a combined 10-21 with a 5.04 ERA in 90 games (48 starts). He was originally signed by the Dodgers on January 12, 2024 as a minor league free agent.

Varland, 27, pitched a scoreless inning last night and lowered his ERA to 3.00 on the season. He has made 23 Major League appearances in two seasons with Milwaukee (2023) and Los Angeles (2023-24), going 1-1 with a 5.81 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 26.1 innings. He made nine appearances for Triple-A Oklahoma City, going 1-0 with a 5.06 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 10.2 innings. He was originally drafted by the A’s in the 14th round of the 2018 First Year Player Draft out of Concordia University.

Crismatt, 29, allowed one run last night and sports a 2.57 ERA in five games with the Dodgers. He was 1-0 with Triple-A Oklahoma City and recorded a 5.68 ERA. In his Major League career, he is a combined 9-6 with 3.71 ERA in 177.0 innings across five Major League seasons with St. Louis (2020), San Diego (2021-23), Arizona (2023) and Los Angeles (2024). He signed with the Dodgers on December 12, 2023.
