June 1: OF has no timeline with new diagnosis
On Friday, the Tigers updated the status of Carpenter’s injury from lumbar spine inflammation to lumbar spine stress fracture. On Saturday, manager A.J. Hinch explained that due to variables with this injury, there was no clear sign of when the outfielder might return.

“There’s a lot of unknowns still in terms of timetable, which is why we don’t put one on it," Hinch said. “We’re going to go kind of go week-by-week with him and continue to check in on what the best next step is for him.”

June 1: OF (psoas strain) doesn't need IL stint at this time
Canha was a late scratch from the Tigers lineup on Friday night and on Saturday, the outfielder revealed that test results revealed a psoas strain. As his condition worsened over the week, the outfielder feared a hip flexor, but with this diagnosis, there is no IL stint necessary at this time. Canha worked with trainers prior to Saturday’s game in Boston and reported very positive results.

“I think we can treat it and keep pushing through,” said Canha. “I’ve done some work today and we feel like we’ve made a positive stride forward. It feels a lot better after the work today.”

Canha’s next step is pregame work on the field, where manager A.J. Hinch said he would better be able to evaluate his immediate availability.

June 1: RHP faces five in rehab outing
Rehabbing from right ulnae nerve inflammation, Miller made his second appearance with Triple-A Toledo on Friday night. The right-hander came on in the sixth inning and allowed just one hit in 1 1/3 innings of work. Miller also struck out two of the five batters he faced.

On Saturday in Boston, manager A.J. Hinch was quick to note that the pitcher was hit in the back on a throw to second base by catcher Dillon Dingler, but that the only lingering results from that may come when he returns to the clubhouse.

“We laughed that off. It circulated around the clubhouse,” the manager said with a grin.

This was the second rehab outing for Miller, who had allowed two hits and a walk over 2 1/3 innings with Toledo. Prior to hitting the IL, Miller appeared in 15 games out of the Detroit bullpen, going 3-4 with a 4.41 ERA.
